formatDate JSP Tag - brauche Beispiele!

finde zum formatDate Tag keinerlei Beispiele! Die Beschreibung bei Sun ist unbrauchbar.

type: Specifies whether the time, the date, or both the time and date components of the given date are to be formatted.

---> 1, 2, 3? oder was?

Bin drauf und dran ein Customtag zu bauen... kann mir jemand bitte ein Beispiel posten, wie dieses Tag richtig verwendet wird?
